Fast Food Nation (2006)
This movie addresses the health risks of consuming fast food. It is an adaption of the book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal written by Eric Schlosser. The movie and book provides an extension history to include the rise of fast food in our country. It explores fast foods link to the obesity epidemic and how the industry markets to children. The video recounts the fact that doctors believe that Charles “Bubba” Smith, a former professional football player, died from a complication associated with his use of phentermine, an appetite suppressant. Three key points from the video are 1.) People with hypertension, diabetes, or anxiety disorders should not take diet pills; 2.) Exercise and diet are the best way to lose weight, and 3.) Even those without underlying conditions should only use them as a short-term solution in conjunction with diet and exercise. Basic Food Safety. (n.d.)
