Schlenker and Roth’s (2011) statement “…food patterns…grow out of our cultural, social, and psychological environment...” is true. Without evidence-based information, people are food "mis-educated" as they search for nutrition solutions. They believe the claims they see on television, read on the internet, or hear from a friend. In the process, teenagers are taking life-threatening weight-loss pills, athletes are consuming cancer-causing anabolic steroids, and older adults are eating foods that promise the fountain of youth. Most of these claims for youthful beauty, superior muscles, or rapid exercise-free weight loss are too good to be true; therefore, false. Below are some resources relating to contemporary health issues. I will continue to add resources as I find them.
